"You bet your big fat cock I am"
"Yo fuck-nuts, it's probin' time"
and, "I have wasps in my brain"
You just know it's going to be an interesting ride. Paul was an great sit down and laugh movie that will speak more towards the "Fanboys" of Sci-Fi movies of the years gone by. Chances are the mother with the 2 10 year old boys sitting beside me in the theater didn't really get all the references or sexual innuendo...Sure was funny when she took them out of there though!

An alien named Paul (Seth Rogen) has escaped a top-secret military base when he discovers he’s been taken prisoner after 60 years of helping the general population. He meets up with two sci-fi geeks’ (Graeme and Clive) traveling from the UK to America’s UFO hot spots after Comic-Con in California. Chased by federal agents and the crazy-Christian father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive half-ass a plan to return Paul to his people.
Thumbs Up:
- So many hidden (and not so hidden) references to older sci-fi movies. it's great to make those connections.
- Great humor! Not all poop jokes and fart gags (although they are there) its more of the attitude of the characters and the fact that what we would expect to see from an alien is not what we see on the screen at all.
- Great cast! From Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to Sigourney Weaver and Bill Hader. You can really see how they took what the script said and the spin they put on it with their own comedic style.
- Story is pretty basic as "Road Trip" meets "ET", but still full of comedy, action (not tons) and lets say, shallow depth.
Thumbs Down:
- At 1 hour 40 minuets it's a bit short, however for this type of movie it seems to work pretty well and you don't really care you just spent $6.00 on parking for a movie under 2 hours.
- Storyline is pretty basic and anyone with 1/2 a brain will know how it will progress, but that's ok.
- If you are 10 years old, or someone who isn't into any Sci-Fi movies, or possible a normal girl you wont get many of the "hidden" references to older movies. Example: In the hillbilly bar, the "folk-band" playing in the background is the music from the Mos Eisley scene in Star Wars: A New Hope.. Click here.
To sum up this is a really good movie to check out and have a few good laughs. If you don't know anything about Star Wars, Aliens, ET, X-Files, Indiana Jones or Sci-Fi movies in general you probably wont get all the fun hidden jokes throughout the movie. If you're just looking for a good laugh and love the actors in this film, go check it out anyway.
I had a hard time giving this a perfect rating as it all depends on what kind of person you are when it comes to these types of movies and if you will get the little extras... Since I did, I am giving it ....
4 - Stars

I liked it. And I got all the references too. But I think you might have found the humour much more clever than I did. I laughed from time to time, but found it pretty inconsistent. I wanted to like it more than I did.
