Movie News

Michael Shannon Cast as General Zod
Michael Shannon was rumored for an unspecified villain role last month — the studios have announced he will play Zod.  Director Zack Snyder said:
“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.
Henry Cavill will star as Clark Kent/Superman. The cast includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.

TRON 3 already in the works?
It seems that Disney is looking to move forward with a sequel, TRON 3. What remains uncertain for now is whether or not Joseph Kosinski will be returning to direct the third installment.

Kosinski opened up a bit about the prospective plot of TRON 3 and admitted that although he’s not a lock for the project, he’s hopeful about getting to call the shots on the 3rd film.
“We’re working on the story right now. Once we get a script we’re all really happy with, we’ll take it to the powers that be and see if we can go back to the grid… I think we will pick [up] with where ‘TRON: Legacy’ left off with Quorra (Olivia Wilde) in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It’s the relationship between the two of them that’s the next step.”
Here's hoping for more of an actual story and not just a bunch of fancy-schmancy visuals... One can home right?

"They Live" - Again?
Matt Reeves has signed on at Universal Pictures to write and direct a feature based on the famed Ray Nelson short story 8 O’Clock in the Morning with Strike Entertainment producing.. The story is about a man who awakens one morning with the crystal-clear realization that we are surrounded daily by the presence of aliens that are controlling society. It was owned by the studio because it was used as the basis for the 1988 John Carpenter film They Live. In that film, aliens were discovered through the use of special glasses. None of that is being used here, and the film is not considered a remake.
Fun Fact: Strike Entertainment just wrapped the remake of another film that Carpenter directed, The Thing. Strike also has the untitled sci-fi action movie directed by Andrew Niccols that stars Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy.

X-Men Origins: Deadpool

Tim Miller, who has done strong visual effects work through his VFX house Blur Films, was just set by 20th Century Fox to make his feature directing start with X-Men Origins: Deadpool, the X-Men spinoff film expected to star Ryan Reynolds and had a small part in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Why not remake Total Recall?
Total Recall features a three-breasted mutant prostitute, the nightmarish vision of Arnold Schwarzenegger digging a tracking device out of his skull through his nose, and the scientific assertion that Martian radiation can turn an average human into a mutant. ALL THE THINGS GREAT ABOUT THIS MOVIE!
Moritz (Director) is stingy with plot details, but he does drop one bombshell: “The big difference is we don’t go to space.” So no “Get your ass to Mars,” no evil space-radiation it seems. So how much of a remake can it be? Total Recall was very loosely adapted from a Philip K. Dick short novel called “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale,” which is Mars-free. So perhaps Re-Recall is aiming to stay true to the original story.

As for the cast: Variety reports that Jessica Biel is circling one of the roles opposite Colin Farrell. The two roles in the original, Lori and Melina, were played by Sharon Stone and Rachel Ticotin respectively. Apparently early word was that Biel was going after Melina. Bryan Cranston is set to play the villain, although not sure which one. Total Recall hits theaters August 3rd 2012.
